About Manga Trip Japan

Manga Trip Japan turns Japan's historic places into four-panel comics. Pick a base city, an era, a region, or a person, and read the story of a place before you stand in it.

What this is

Every spot here is a real place you can visit. Each one gets four panels: why the place matters, two things to do when you arrive, and how the story ends. The distances and travel times shown are straight-line estimates from your chosen base city, meant for rough planning only — not for catching a train.

How the artwork and text are made

The illustrations and the panel text are generated with AI, then reviewed and edited by a human before publication. They are interpretations, not photographs and not historical documents. People, buildings, and events are drawn as they might have looked, and the wording is written to be readable rather than exhaustive. Where a detail is disputed among historians, we pick the common account and keep it short.

About the history

The historical summaries are compiled from public reference material and site information published by the places themselves. History is contested and our summaries are brief; if you find something wrong, please tell us — corrections are welcome and we fix them. See Contact.

Visiting real places

Many of these sites are active temples, shrines, castles, museums, or private property. Opening hours, admission fees, and access change. Always check the official site before you travel, follow posted rules on photography and entry, and treat places of worship as places of worship.

Accessibility

We aim for WCAG 2.1 AA. Every interactive element is reachable by keyboard, images that carry meaning have text alternatives, and colour is never the only signal. If something on this site blocks you, tell us through the contact form with the page address and what happened, and we will fix it.
